HEARTLANDS: Sketches of Rural America

After the bride and groom left the party, I asked my friend Dave what kids get up to here on a Saturday night. "Get in," he said, as he swung his truck toward the empty town square. When we arrived, he pointed to a neon sign above Carl`s AG, the grocery store. "I`ll show you what we get up to." He gunned the engine and started circling the square. "Focus on the sign." After we circled and circled several times, he pulled over. "Did you see it? Did you see the rabbit?" I shook my head. "Hmmmm. It used to be there. If you go fast enough you see, like, this little bunny hopping across the neon. The neon bunny."
